LADY PATRIOT

At
The Hudson Theatre

The inner sanctum of Confederate President Jefferson Davis has been breached.

No one is privy to this information except Jefferson’s advisors and they are beyond repute. Still sensitive facts and data continue to fall into Union hands. Based on a true story, Lady Patriot reveals an intimate look into the prejudices and patriotism of three ladies who lived during the Civil War, Varina Davis, Elizabeth Van Lew, and Mary Bowser. Written and directed by Ted Lange, Lady Patriot combines Lange’s signature comedy and drama as it peels away traditional stereotypes prevalent in the South during the Confederacy.
Lady Patriot performs at the Hudson Theatre, 6539 Santa Monica Blvd., Hollywood, CA 90038. Valet Parking is available. Opening night is September 7th and runs thru October 14th. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm. For tickets: www.plays411.com/ladypatriot or call (323) 960-7822.
Produced by Mary Lange, an ensemble cast includes Zuri Alexander (Mary Bower), Lou Beatty Jr. (Old Robert), Dr. Gordon Goodman (Jefferson Davis), Anne Johnstonbrown (Varina Davis), Paul Messinger (Judah P. Benjamin), Chrystee Pharris (Mary Bowser), Robert Pine (Mrs. Slydell), and Connie Ventress (Elizabeth Van Lew).
Ted Lange is the author of twenty-four plays. Lady Patriot is the third play in his historical trilogy. George Washington’s Boy, the first play, was presented two years ago in Los Angeles, and then in Winston-Salem, NC at the National Black Theatre Festival to rave reviews. Lange’s ability to infuse modern traits into his historical characters makes history accessible and relevant to the viewers. Lange’s plays bring audiences to their feet as they are not only entertained but also educated in a black historical viewpoint. Akin to August Wilson’s repertoire, many of Lange’s plays have garnered prestigious awards and have been performed nationwide. Lange, director, writer, and a prolific actor of stage and screen, is a graduate of London’s Royal Academy of the Dramatic Arts, and a recipient of the NAACP Renaissance Man Theatre Award. A history teacher once told Lange that history is written by the victors. Lange’s Lady Patriot is one of history’s untold stories.
